had our last day of sch today :( actually, i don't really know what is our last day of sch. cux tues was the last day of proper lectures/tutorials, then wed was the last day that our class will be having sth together (management exam), but we had OSCE spread out over thurs and fri. mine was today so it's kinda my last day of having sch. but then after mental health posting, we have our study week and then our final exam on 31st mar (plus 2 essays due). so that's our last day too. but then after our ED and Transition-to-Practice posting (5 weeks!) we have our final gathering--closing the loop. so closing the loop is our final day in sch together. but then there's commencement. where it's really our final day in school. so which day is really our last day in school? i don't know. but we're just been taking photos everyday, every moment. hoping to capture every memory, every friendship. gonna miss everyone, even the difficult people.

a perfectly horrid end to a perfectly horrid day.
i just lost 100 over photos of nursing FOC day 1! the card had to be reformatted when i connected it to the com and after doing so, i lost ALL the photos i took today. am extremely sad. i know it's stupid to cry over photos but i can't help it. it was the few things that made me happy today. and the worst thing is that my station game is the station that had to take photos!!! so now we can't really judge who created the most accurate nus nursing uniform! i really hope that the photos that i take during the next few days when i return to camp would be fine. i should have just bought a camera of my own instead of using the old one. argh.
(i'm so sorry, my nursing friends, i can't send you the photos cux it's all gone)
but i guess i should give thanks that it's not the whole camp's photos.. and that they are many other people with cameras. i'm thankful for the many hugs from people that God has been sending me to keep me going especially when this day was so horrible.
yes, i want to give thanks even tho it's so hard. i shall not let satan taunt me anymore.
okies, i'm gonna sleep now. i'm super tired. must pre-sleep alot to make up for the lack of it during the camp.. nights!

had a super busy week.. thankful for a half day today.. but i've been having alot of fun at uncle yau hong's clinic.. really thankful cux it takes my mind off things and i'm earning $$ to learn nursing skills.. not that i help in his room but in terms of skills that can never be taught in the textbook, how to relate to outpatients/inpatients.. i went to fetch a patient from the ward yday and saw the removal of nasal pack.. it was interesting tho very bloody.. and it was a painful procedure.. kinda sad cux i've not been in OT and i dun dare ask.. cux uncle yau hong would be paying me to just stand and observe.. not very nice to him.. sigh..
just finished calling all my seniors.. and doing the camp booklet.. super tired.. gonna sleep.. need the energy for tmr.. gonna rush around like mad.. shall blog more another time...

"never will i leave you.. something that i'll never do.. forever remember that it's true- never will i leave you.. " love this song on my blog.. needed a little assurance this week..
hmmm.. been missing attachment, i don't miss the feeling of perpetual fatigue but i miss the patients.. no wonder service is a cure to busyness.. i think by the time next sem comes, i would have lost touched with my skills and all.. but then i think when we have 9 weeks of attachment next year, i will be grumbling like mad.. haha..
I NEED TO EXERCISE!! feeling so unhealthy.. think i should start running regularly.. but then the inertia to do so is SSSSSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOO great..
family fun day tmr.. was supposed to do the candy floss but then the people supplying the machine would be the ones mending it. oh wells..
yay! yaf retreat next week! i can't wait to get out of singapore! haha..

had a super emotional day today. another emotional day. but really, the whole day was emotional.
patient went into cardiac arrest just before we ended shift today. not my patient but i changed him a couple of times.. answered his call bell quite alot.. i was nearby and i heard the relative wailing super loudly. lots of family members came after that.. ran away before i really break down too.. think alot of self control is needed, to control emotions in times like these.. the stupid MO signed the coronary's case form tho he's is not and so not he has to go for post mortem!!
then in the afternoon, there were so many people praying over my patient.. on DIL (dangerously ill list) and DNR except for fluid recusitation.. we wanted to change diapers for her but they asked us to wait.. after talking for some time, they started to pray in chinese.. i don't know why i felt so emotional.. nearly broke down.. maybe cux this patient has gone thru so much and she screams each time we change stoma bag.. and also she's the first patient that i pray for.. and God answered my prayer.. we were changing her stoma bag and cleaning the wound caused by stoma leakage.. she kept screaming and so i prayed for her as i held her.. after a while she stopped screaming and so i think God answered my prayer, reducing her pain level.. but really, as they prayed, i felt like cryin.. maybe it brought back too many memories too.. she's the patient i'm doing my case study on..
the worst thing today was changing patient's sweat filled shirt. and no, it's not the sweat that was bad. it was the patient himself- a DOM! initially when we turned him to take off his shirt, i thought he wanted to hold onto the side for security. but then he kept whacking me and even pinched me at my- well, let's just say i felt so violated.. thankfully i was with my CI and so she told me what to do.. this is the first DOM i encountered. :(:(:(
SN Lim taught me different kinds of medicine today. really happy. she always call me "mei mei" or "darling" haha. but Sister Goh called us ITE students yday called us NYP students today.
sigh. today would have been a perfect team and day if the someone was not around. she made me do all the "dirty work" and was so unreasonable.. i mean, i don't mind doing para and cleaning patients. i like doing it even though people think it's well, "dirty". but then don't tell me "at the rate you are doing, i dun need to go home till tmr morning!" if she's so fast, she can go do it herself. i can cheat like her and complete it in 45 min.. i mean, i don't have to measure patient's resipration rate, i can just guess that it's normally around 20 or look at pt's baseline and chart it, like what she does.. but i take time to talk to each patient.. to tell them that their pressure/temp/etc is fine.. i bother to change BP cuffs when pt's hand is too small or too big. and i LIFT UP their sleeves to chack their bp.. it's more accuarate!! i mean, little things like these can really make a difference in a patient's mood, esp talking to them. i'm also not a robot! i care for my patients and want to make them happy. i want to tresure the time spent with each patient as i would be so much busier next sem and won't be able to do this again.. next sem we have to take cases and feel more stressed.. and cux she didn't want to do para herself.. she kept it for me to do.. 3 hours later! when i finish my para, relatives are gonna complain cux they next shift have to do para again. and bed 31 already complained that cannot use dinamap. but she stubbornly used it making pt and daughter angry. in the end have to tell SN to write in case notes!
and at least let me do my neb case ESPECIALLY when i'm free!! i was in the same cubicle talking to pt.. she saw me but went ahead to prepare in prep room first before giving pt!! i can't ask her to throw the med and let me do it.. afterall patient is paying for it!!! sigh. i only have ONE column signed SPI and two weeks left. my objective was to complete 70% skills by week 3! and then my CI is forever not around so i can't even get her to sign for me. argh. i really hope i don't fail this mod. i'll just die having to go thru another 5 weeks of clinicals. i mean, i have so many camps and preparation to do!!
so pissed with her i can't sleep. all the endorphines are being released! sigh.. but i'm so tired emotionally and physically.. thank God for sat and sun DO!
sigh.. perhaps God is really teaching me to be humble.. arrrgggghhh...
and argh..i'm getting sick.. sore throat, aching feet and back, fever.. sigh.. but maybe it's pseudo-fied.. like the book wei en's reading.. many things are all psychological..
sorry. think i really lost focus today. esp when that HCA was around.

parkinson is a very cruel disease. very cruel indeed. it robs you of your dignity, your worth, everything. it not only inconvenience the people closest to you but it hurts them too. so deeply. the worst thing is that you are not even aware of it. you're in your own world. it pains me to see my patients in this state. sometimes the other nurses condemns these patients and make fun of them but God has been reminding me that each of them is still part of His creation. but it also makes me question God. how does all of these fit into His plan? why did He even create this disease? in the end, you just wait to die.
perhaps instead of asking so many "why" questions, we should ask ask the "what" questions.. instead of asking why did it happen to him/her, ask what is God teaching me or him/her through it all. i believe that i'll never know the reason why until i see God face to face one day. but sometimes i find it so hard to care for patients who has been classified as a DIL or DNR case or pallative case. all they have left is their stay in hospital or hospice. it like waiting for a death sentence. only thing they do not know when it'll come. i feel so burdened for them, to give them the love and acceptance that they need. i wish i could do something more but i feel so insignificant, so inadequate, so helpless. much less using my pathetic nursing skills to care for them.
sometimes it makes me wonder, what happens if this disease strikes someone closest to me? what if happen to someone i love so dearly when he/she growes old and am reduced to this state? what if the person was me?
but as i reflect, i'm thankful that God was so merciful to grandpa. he didn't have to eat thru NG tube, he was cognitively alert till the end, he wasn't bed bound, he didn't give nurses any trouble, he took his medicine consistently and without complaining. grandpa taught me alot thru his life. thru his quiet nature and undemanding self. he was a man of God. he finished well.
but i guess i've been forced to think alot about things.
what profit does a man make if he gains the world but loses his own soul. when God determines that our life on earth is up, all that counts is what is eternal. even the richest guy can be a beggar in the kingdom of God if he does not invest in the eternal. but think sometimes it's so much easier to love the temporal and what i can see, neglecting what is really eternal. really need to think more about the way i'm living my life now.. maybe God's trying to reassure me that i've not gone into the wrong course even though so many sacrifices has to be made. but no matter what, i want God to say to me when i see Him, "well done, good and faithful servant".

had a super crappy day today again. did stuff in the morning. most eventful was caring for a demented patient. was quite funny. but it seemed so long to get her back to her bed. then i looked at the clock. it was 9am. sigh. had lunch at 10am ant but 2pm i was counting down to the time to go home. 230pm our CI came and we started talking to her. then mdm liaw surprised us and down by TTSH! she's our liason and it's super nice of her la.
then we had sharing and prayer after attachment with the year 2s! really thankful for them.
wasn't in the mood to go for youth sunday meeting. was too tired. too much things to do. and i'm not really involved in it. but mainly i needed to rest.
yes, i need to rest. thank God for afternoon shift tmr. but then there's morning shift on fri! oh wells. i hope next week's schedule will be given to us soon..

yay! got my posting schedule for the first week of attachment! really thank God for it! sat and sun are my days off. :) and i'm in the same ward as people who i am quite close to! and mdm liaw will be our liason for the first 2 weeks! yay! :):):) really thank God!! :) been praying for a schedule which won't clash with so many things.. and God answered my prayer for the first week.. i can go to church on sunday, YAF, family group (if there's children's prog), can meet up with people too!! :):):)
went out with my mum today and i bought clothes!! yay! bought 2 skirts and 2 blouses for $51 which is super cheap cux the original prices were above 20 for each item, the most expensive was the skirt which cost $43! haha.. i think i sound like some aunty.. -whoops- haha.. went shopping yday in the morning to early afternoon too! bought a purple dress for glen's wedding!! i need alot more clothes!! been quite bored of using jeans and youth camp shirts to sch everyday!! haha.. but i realised that i'm super fat too.. :(:(:( oh wells. at least i managed to get nice clothes for sch too..

6th may 2008 was my last day of sch. but not really last day of year cux we have attachment. time really flies. one year down, 2 more to go and then
"world, here i come".. it's so scary.. :s
as i look back on the past year, i am amazed how faithful God is. the cramming throughout the whole night (something which i promise not to do next sem -i hope- due to the dire consequences), and staying up all night just to finish assignments/projects, realising many things about myself during lectures and what nots, NMs/PGs/crusade DG.. God has really provided for me and been there for me.
i really thank God for how He has guided me and sustained me thru it all.. and i want to trust that He will bring me thru year 1 and to year 2 because He has brought me to it.
i'm really looking forward to attachment, cux it's the more common type of nursing. am excited about it.. about the skills that were gonna perform (simple as it may be).. but then i am afraid. extremely afraid too. i really need to go in there with alot of strength, emotionally, physically, mentally and most importantly spiritually. i need God's strength all the more this time round. but then i may be posted to a respiratory ward instead. there's just so many things to learn and i need a more teachable heart.
well, on a lighter note, the next few days are gonna be relaxing ones. meeting up with people, sakae with my sis, shopping with my mum, slacking.. but then i've promised my mum to help out more in the housework after my exams. will keep that promise.
a few months ago i was the onlooker, the patient's relative. now i will be the nurse, the student nurse. i am afraid.

Trust in Me, Keep your life free
From what the love of money will do
Am I not enough for you?
Never will I leave you, That's something I'll never do
Forever remember that it's true
Never will I leave you
And when you fear, The scars and tears
Remember what I have sworn
I'll be with you through the storm
Never will I leave you, That's something I'll never do
Forever remember that it's true
Never will I leave you
And when you fear,
That's when I'm near
Your soul's security
Oh, when will you believe?
Never will I leave you
That's something I'll never do
Forever remember that it's true
Never will I leave you
Never will I leave youposted this song some time back.. thought it's pretty meaningful to post it again.. a reminder and encouragement to those in the midst of exams.
really need to remember this. it's really my theme song for this exam. whenever i feel so crappy and discouraged, i'll listen to it and sing it..
2 down, 2 more to go. thought that i wonld be quite relieved affter physio today. but sigh. i think i need to work superly hard for the next few papers :s
taking a break today, after sleeping 2 hrs last night, i'm quite a gone case. shall resume my mugging in chr tmr. going out with my mum in the evening. :) yay!
and anyone kind enough to give me an antipyretic med? been having this fever since monday @ 37.7 degrees. :(:(:( but then again, it may just be the weather.
happy birthday, my dear sister! :)Labels: birthday, exams, nursing, song

TTSH (Tan Tock Seng Hospital) it shall be. yup, been posted there, my first choice. kinda glad cux it's so near bsf place and i can take mrt from gombak to novena, tho it's quite long.. but i think at the unearthly hour that i have to leave house, the trains would not be so crowded? so i'll have place to sit!! haha. and if i dun i can take the woodlands line which takea 10 mins more but i'll confirm have place to sit! haha.. better appreciate the time we have to sit, dun think we have much time during clinicals to sit.. haha.. kinda looking forward to clinicals.. cux it's acute hospital this time round.. no more boring-and-there's-nothing-to-do afternoons.. but i fear the memories that it may bring.
i'm thankful that there are Christian seniors who are posted to TTSH too (though wendy's posted to RH). but the shifts and all would be quite different cux they have night shifts..
think i should stop complaining about the past attachment place. i now know why God placed me there and i'm extremely thankful He did, tho i cab-ed there everyday and found out that i could take mrt and reach on time only on the last day. but i'm so thankful God gave me those extra special moments and i won't want to exchange it for anything else. which is also the reason why i didn't choose CGH. (i hope
you stop asking me why n that's why i dun want to swap). familiarity is good and it
is an advantage. but it also brings back memories. it'll be hard for me to walk into that place and not feel anything.
i think the complain-y attitude that is in me that is acting up again. esp during this period. i need to learn to give thanks more. argh.
i think i'm going crazy soon- trying to focus on studying, much less trying to understand it.. i think i've striking similarities to a goldfish- 3 secs!!!
sometimes i wish i could do more to help...Labels: nursing, thankful, zzz

i survived this week!! slept about 8-9 hours from sunday night till fri evening.. sunday and thurs night was spent doing essays, therapuetic com and case report.. tues had bsf and then had to complete PBL.. was supposed to submit it 2359 (and it was i who gave the deadline this week cux i led -whoops-) but i submitted it at 4am instead.. slept at 4 plus woke up at 6.. wed night i couldn't tahan and slept at 12.. wanted to do my case report but i just kept falling asleep.. then i overslept on thurs morn.. had to cab to nuh, cux i had cardio rehab field trip and could not be late.. it cost 1.35 times the normal rate cause it was peak hour.. :( i wanted to go for FG on fri but my parents didn't allow cux i didn't sleep much.. fell asleep before my parents left at 8pm.. woke up at 10am and helped my dad do stuff.. missed youth praise meeting but then i reached in time for LT meeting.. then we took celine's car to grace n wei song's house.. we play fun games (not the typical youth-ish kinda games) n had dinner.. started to rain so we went down one level and had dinner there..
you ask me how i did it, i'll tell u i don't know.. i really don't know.. but it's really God who brought me thru this whole week.. been listening to Max Lucado book, the audio version of "in the eye of the storm" (want APA format? haha..).. and he said exactly the same thing.. guess while listening to him, i been realising alot of things.. anyway, i don't know how i managed to keep awake this whole week when i slept so little.. i dunno how i managed to smile and laugh even when i felt so tired.. but i do know that God carried me thru.. and i'm really thankful..
but thru it all, i feel super guilty, cux i think i've been quite a bad testimony? skipped 2 lectures this week cux of essay.. broke a few promises, was supposed to donate blood at TH but then i just was so worried that i'll faint cux of lack of blood and sleep (i feel giddy very easily).. think i've not been a really good steward of time too.. was on msn alot.. maybe i should just fast from msn this week.. and also, i know that i'm not really taking care of my physical body.. depriving it of sleep and rest.. but God is gracious and still sustained me.. perhaps He's also training me for shift work in future.
and also, i guess God constantly reminded me of yiling's sms(thanks, sister if u see this)..
times of refreshing, here in Your presence, no greater blessing, than being with You, my soul is restored, my mind is renewed, there's no greater joy Lord, than being with You. even though i didn't spend as much time with God as i wanted to, it really made me kept shooting arrow prayers to God and reminding myself that He will carry me thru.. i guess this also made me not want to skip nursing ministry or prayer groups or crusade DG, or even BSF, cux i knew that i could find renewal in these times.. that God could used these times to encourage me and He did.. was really encouraged by worship during NM tho i felt super sleepy while we were talking after that.. and i'm really blessed by the sessions of prayers we had during crusade and prayer group.. think everyone's going thru the same thing and we all realised that we're been so far from God.. but there is so much comfort in just going to God and seeking His forgiveness knowing that He has already forgiven us and is still carrying us thru it all..
after doing my case report, i realised how i've become so grades orientated.. throughout the whole week while doing essays, case report, PBL, i was just trying to pia.. to chiong and just to complete it.. to get as much marks as possible.. i dealt with Mdm Ong's disease and not her as a patient(not that she is a real person tho..).. and i forgot the most important thing- that i am really studying for God.. i think in nursing it's quite straight-forward.. as we're supposed to study for our patients.. to care for them, their condition and their person.. and thru all these, we glorify God by being His instruments..
and oh, on a ligher note, i bought a new mp4! :) super love it.. it's memory is 8 times the size of my old one and only twice the price! and this one has brand, as in not some china brand that i've never heard of before.. haha.. i'm quite thankful cux it's much cleared when i record lecture.. as in there's not so much static noises and i can hear the lecturer's voice much clearer.. and it's touch screen! :)
been resting today.. sleeping alot besides chr.. kinda feeling much better now and i feel ready for this week.. not that we have alot of lessons tho..
and msn is giving me prob again.. so sorry if i dun reply you..
jia you everyone!!! let's press on and be reminded that it's God who we are serving!! :)

watched episodes 9-11 of one litre of tears last night.. only 2 more left.. woke up this morning with red, puffy eyes.. haha..
but surprisingly, i feel much better now.. been feeling really sucky and moody the whole week and after crying so much cux of the super emo drama, i feel better.. it's really therapeutic.. :)
sigh.. dunno what's happening to me.. my mind is always on sth else.. been quite blur lately.. :S but at least, i only made one mistake during attachment.. recorded the temperature wrongly and i realised it after i checked again..
sorry huikoon.. didn't go to your chr's fun fair.. been on facebook the whole morning.. doing jig saw puzzles.. :) haha.. so fun.. but then it's quite bad for my eyes.. think i'm using the com too much these few days.. bad bad.. oh well, but at least i'll not have access to the computer for the next few days.. gonna stay at my grandparents house till wed night.. gonna miss chr tmr cux of attachment.. :(:(:
travelling is so horrible.. and the bus\MRT fares are SO EXPENSIVE. just a trip to and fro from my grandparents' house is $3++ :S and to simei is $1.75.. so if i travel from home everyday it'll cost $3.50 PER DAY!!!! but then again the trains do not start so early. actually i can take train but i'll be a little late.. but that's what i'm gonna do on my last day of work on fri.. cux have fg celebration at night! the worst thing is that even staying with my grandparents, i can't take public transport. the bus would ony reach at 7 plus and by then it's too late.. i need to reach at 6.45am, latest 7am! :( so i've been cabbing everyday... about $6-7 buck per day.. and we still have to pay for our own lunch, not like st lukes- free lunch.. that is why we need an attachment allowance!!! :s oh well.. i shouldn't be complaining..
okies.. i'm going off to my grandparents' house soon..

4 days of attachment are over, 5 more days left. there's fg christmas celebration and shi en's wedding to look forward to.. and caroling at dover park hospice and maybe NUH!
for attachment, we're been really free.. really afraid that i cannot accomplish all the skills.. we only take TPR (temperature, pulse and respiration rate), bathe patients.. but it's only trolley bath and not commode bath which is an essential skill we need to fulfil.. they dun allow us to transfer patients.. most of the time, we're only observing or just walking around doing some sai gang things..
but i guess the standard of healthcare is realy something that we can learn from.. their hygenie is so high, they bathe patients everyday and do not give them bed bath.. the nurses in my ward are so nice too.. and they're really cheerful..
i can't wait for attachment to end.. never thought i'll say this.. but i feel that i'm wasting time sometimes.. and i feel super upset that i had to miss youth camp because of attachment.. but the most irritating thing is that i could have attended the finale night last night.. cux i passed clementi at about 10pm.. and wei en said the programme started at 10 plus because the BBQ ended late.. :(:(:(:( and my parents didn't allow me to go on wed and stay over night even though i had an afternoon shift the next day.. i really do hope that my next year attachment is such that i can go for youth camp.. at least part of it..

i can't believe i went to orchard to shop and only bought a pair of shoes and ONE blouse. :( spent $64 on one pair of shoes.. just for the sake of comfort and fear of varicose veins.. haha.. we went from place to place just looking at shoes.. :s then after buying the shoes only then we looked at other things.. :S bought a shirt then we rushed to see the movie.. wanted to visit uncle yau hong and his nurses but then i felt quite sian so i went home instead. haha..
we watched
enchanted.. nice but not really worth watching.. haha.. but i dun normally watch movies so cannot really trust me to judge it.. sigh.. if only there is a happy ending for everything.. i know there is that is a happy ending awaiting us when we die- heaven.. but now, there's
reality..
been watching
one litre of tears on youtube.. takes so long to download. then jasmine said she'll lent me the vcds instead! yay! but can only get it during miharu's farewell on thurs.. i watched two and half episodes alr.. cried like mad.. it's really touching.. haha.. super emo lar. but it's a true story though they dramatised it alot. :S
my shifts are so horrible. really spread out. i mean, it's good to others but i want to go for youth camp. actually can go but its ma fan to go in and out of camp so much.. and by the time i reach, it would be in the midst of the afternoon activities.. i really wanna go but dunno if i should go.. unless i have someone who can send me in and out of camp :( it's so near my attachment place yet so far.. :( but at least i have sat off on the first week, thurs and sat and sun off on the second week.. but i have to miss chr on the first week.. 7-3.30pm.. :(:( sigh.. if only i got st lukes.. some of them have shifts that fits what i want.. :(:( only AMK and SACH has shifts on sun!! :( oh well.. nursing comes with a price.. and in the future too.. but i guess i should not complain! at least i'm free to celebrate my parents' 25th anni on the 11th dec..
